Versa-Spa Sunless Tanning

What is a Multi-Treatment Session?
Sep 30, 2017 09:30AM PDT
SunScape highly recommends doing a multi-treatment session when using the Versa-Spa

A VersaSpa Multi-Treatment Session is a process of combining 2 or 3 formulations in the same session. Keep in mind that treatment sprays (Pre-Sunless pH Balancing Treatment, or Post-Sunless Super Hydrating Treatment) are all 2 passes (front and back) while Bronzing Treatment is applied in 4 passes for complete, perfect coverage. Additionally, your blow dry passes match your spray passes; therefore, a Bronzing and Super Hydrating Multi-Treatment Session will be demonstrated as:

Bronzing - Front, Side, Side, Back Blow Dry - Back (2x), Front(2x)
Hydrating - Front, Back Blow Dry - Back, Front
Can I swim, shower, and workout with my sunless tan?
Jan 19, 2012 07:16PM PST
That's a great question as SunScaper's are often very active individuals!

Of course! But be sure to wait at least 4 hours to allow the DHA in the solution to react with your skin's amino acids and proteins which is what gives you the amazing bronze tan. In fact, the longer you allow the solution to remain on your skin, the longer lasting your tan will be. Finally, swimming in highly chlorinated water will significantly reduce your results.
WIll the bronzing solution stain my hair or clothing?

SunScape only uses a 'clear' solution which means that there are no cosmetic bronzers in it that can cause temporary stains.

In addition, the VersaSpa Sunless formula is completely water soluble. In rare occasions, users may notice some initial cosmetic color on the inside of their clothing, but this color will wash out in cold water.
What's in the Sunless bronzing formula that makes me tan?

DHA, dihydroxyacentone, combined with anti-aging, skin firming ingredients is the main compound that produces a customized bronze glow. DHA has been an approved cosmetic additive by the FDA for over 30 years. VersaSpa chemists have refined the technology to produce the most outstanding formulation that results in silky smooth, glowing skin with a refreshing after scent.

Interesting trivia:

How was spray tanning discovered?

DHA was discovered in the 1920s by German scientists. When the chemical came in contact with the skin accidentally, they noticed a brown hue developed. The color change could not be washed off with soap and water.

Eva Wittgenstein was the first person to experiment with DHA as a tanning agent. She was a scientist working at the University of Cincinnati when she discovered the effects of DHA on the skin. It was being used to treat children with immune diseases when she noticed the children appeared to have been sitting in the sun following treatments. Wittgenstein experimented with applying DHA to different areas of her skin to see how it reacted.

In 1960, the first sunless tanning lotion hit the market. You applied the product overnight and washed it off the next morning. These lotions did not work quite the way people thought they would. Many people were left with orange skin. Because of this, sunless tanning lotions did not become a big seller.

DHA was registered with the Food and Drug administration in 1973 and in the 1980’s manufacturers revamped the sunless tanning lotion products. Using better ingredients allowed them to produce a product that gave consumers the desired result, tan skin.

Since this time, people have been in search of perfect application methods. Hand applying lotions left you with streaks that were not visible until the color fully developed. Spray tanning became an ideal solution. The tan is sprayed on to ensure even results.

Is Versa-Spa safe?
Jan 19, 2012 07:34PM PST
The FDA and Health Canada has approved DHA as a topical application and recommends that users should avoid inhaling or ingesting DHA. As a result, VersaSpa emits the least amount of solution necessary to achieve a full body tan, thus decreasing the amount of inhalable mist for a more pleasant experience.
How long does a sunless tan last?
Jan 23, 2016 01:06PM PST
In general, you lose the top layer of your skin when your skin exfoliates itself. A sunless tan will last 4-7 days depending on how well you maintain your skin.  Make sure you exfoliate prior to your session, and not after. Moisturize your skin plenty afterwards.

The prep spray and post moisturizing treatments offered with your Sunless sessions will promote the longest, most even, natural looking colour.
If you find your sunless tan fading unevenly, this is caused by lack of moisturizing after your spray tan or it can be caused by exfoliating after your spray tan. It can also be cause by sweating in one place frequently, for example if you go to the gym every morning and sweat at the small of your back each time, your tan will fade faster here. Either one causes the skin to shed unevenly. Spraying perfume on chest, and chlorinated pools are also culprits!  We have products that will get it closer to the 7 day mark and touch up any un-even areas. Any of our salon associates would be happy to assist you in finding the perfect after tan product.

Will my skin look orange after a sunless tan?
Sep 30, 2017 08:49PM PDT
Properly prepared skin sprayed with our Multi Session Sunless never results in an orange tinted tan. Pre and post sunless treatments are highly recommended to ensure you are getting the most natural long lasting colour possible. Our prep spray balances the skins PH levels, so your tan sprays on evenly combating any orange tint. Lastly, our post spray (Moisturizer) locks in your tan by providing moisture so your sunless continues to develop in a natural bronze colour. In order to get the best results out of our multi session sunless, you must exfoliate 24 hours prior your appointment, and have no residue, fragrance or lotions on your skin that may effect your PH levels.
If I get a sunless tan, can I use a UV bed too?
Sep 30, 2017 08:51PM PDT
Absolutely! The "double-dip" is one of the best ways to get amazing color!

Double Dip…hmm, that sounds fun! Well it is!

Having a Double Dip is the most effective way to ensure a dark tan in the shortest amount of time. Our double dip at SunScape includes a UV tan and a VersaSpa spray tan, that can be completely customized to your tanning goals and personal preferences.

You will have the choice to have your UV tan before or after your spray tan, and there are benefits to both

UV Before VersaSpaHaving a UV tan before your spray tan will allow for your pores to open up for a deeper tan.

  • A light layer of silicone free lotion may be applied before your UV tan
  • You are able to choose between a lay down or stand up bed

UV After VersaSpa: If you are getting your double dip in the morning and still have your whole day ahead of you, having your UV tan after your spray tan will further dry you off and lock in your tan.

  • No lotion for your UV tan of any kind
  • Stand up bed to prevent perspiration

Before Your Double Dip:

  • Give yourself at least 24 hours between your double dip and the event you are tanning for
  • Shower and exfoliate using a body wash not a bar soap, removing excess dead skin
  • Remove make-up, fragrances and deodorant

After Your Double Dip:

  • Wear dark, loose clothing and open toed shoes
  • Wait to shower 6-8 hours after spray tan
  • Try not to get your skin wet until your first shower, including perspiration.
  • After your first shower moisturize 2-3 times a day to keep your tan hydrated and glowing!

Not only can you upgrade to a higher level UV bed for better results but you can also upgrade your spray tan to a multi-session treatment for the maximum double dip experience!

  • Prep spray helps balance the pH level in the skin and optimizes the skin’s tanning reaction for an even, deep, long lasting tan
  • Moisturizing spray reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and helps the tan last longer by preventing dry skin and pre-mature exfoliation
